Prodigal Son.

He slowed the Honda Rebel as he neared an intersection. Leaning to the side, he looked around to get his bearings. His stomach won out over his need to keep moving and he turned and pulled into a parking lot.

He dropped the kick stand and let the bike settle in before swinging his leg over and stepping away from the 20 year old bike.

The full face helmet came off next, letting his shoulder length brown hair free. He strapped the helmet to the passenger seat before stretching his aching arms and legs.

:800 miles in one sitting, I should know better than that.: He thought as he headed into the pizza joint.
He unzipped the leather jacket and let it hang open as he ordered a large and 2-liter of soda and slid into a booth.

He ate his slices without looking up but he could feel the eyes on him.

:Damn the natives are restless.: He thought as he wiped at his mouth.
His hunger was quickly being slated by the pizza and stares combined.

He pushed the half eaten box to the side and rubbed his head. It had been one week since his grandmother had died and he found his mother’s papers and learned the truth. He picked up the bike in trade for his guitar but he needed wheels more than music at the moment.

He lifted his booted feet and places them on the seat across from him and leaned back and let the aches ease.
He could hear the talking now and had to control the blush when he heard that he was the topic being discussed at several tables.
He was about to go when she slid into the booth across from him, knocking his boots to the floor.

“Oh sweetie, you got a pizza and saved me some.” The tall raven haired looker said with a wink.

“Well that’s just the kind of guy I am.” He said, playing along without missing a beat. He noticed the attention was dropping already.

He shook his head in amusement and almost cracked up laughing as she helped herself to a slice and started eating.

“Help yourself.” He chuckled tiredly.
She nodded and quickly scarfed down the slice and wiped her mouth.

“I thought you could use some help, you were about to ask a lot of different girls out for a night of unsafe activities.” She smirked at him.

“Really, I thought I had plans.” He laughed out loud.

“See, and I thought I was just scamming some free pizza but I was saving your plans. I’m a hero.” She grinned.

“I missed the cape.” He smiled.

“It’s at the cleaners, trust me I look great in skimpy skin tight outfits, with or without the cape.” She said and batted her eye lashes at him.

“And that’s my que to back down. Sorry but you’re what, 16.” He said frowning.

“I’m 18 thank you. Jane Lane.” She said holding out her hand.

“Samuel. It’s a pleasure to meet you but I need to bail, many miles to go before I sleep.” He said wearily.

“Long ride in front of you.” Jane pressed.

“Not really sure. I don’t know exactly where I’m going or what reception I’ll get when I get there.” He said his face dropping slightly before he forced it away.

“Well, not to give you the wrong idea but if you need to crash, my place has a few empty bedrooms.” Jane offered and he had to force himself not to except the offer.
He shook his head no and started to slide out of the booth.

“Why the rush, if you don’t know where you’re going.” She said grabbing his arm.

“Easier to read the street signs and addresses in the day.” He answered honestly.

“Hey, I lived here my whole life, maybe I can help you find what you’re looking for.” She smiled.

Samuel looked at her and sighed, he reached into his pocket and pulled the search results out and handed her an address. She read the address and he saw her almost jump in surprise. Her look and the temperature dropped 50 degrees in seconds.

“I …I think you need to do some explaining.” Jane said looking at him distrustfully.
Samuel decided that anything but the truth was going to cause more trouble than it was worth so he told the truth.

“It’s a long story.” He said and took a drink of his soda.

“I got time.” She replied.

“My mom died when I was 13, I got shipped off to live with my grandmother. She didn’t like me much as I was a constant reminder of her daughter running off to live at some commune and coming back knocked up. She passed away last week and I got told to vacate the house and don’t come back. I was going through the attic when I found some papers and one of the things was letters that my mom wrote to a guy, telling him that she was pregnant with his baby. I never had a dad so I looked him up and headed this way. 23 years old and I finally find out who my dad is, maybe. He lives in this town according to the internet, I found the address and decided to come meet him. I was pissed at first but now, hell he didn’t even know my mom was having a kid. They only hooked up because his wife apparently thought my mom was really cute and the three of them well… .” Samuel shuddered.

Jane had fallen against the back of the booth and stared at him with her mouth hanging wide open.

“Something wrong?” He asked.

“I need to make a call, don’t go anywhere.” Jane said and quickly moved to the row of pay phones against the far wall. He couldn’t hear what she was saying but it was an excited conversation and she returned shortly.

“Ok, I can take you there but you have to do this our way.” Jane said forcefully.

“Our way, who were you talking too?” He demanded.

“Your sister.” Jane said as she pulled him to his feet.
Samuel decided questions could wait.

He followed her out to his bike and watched as she unclasped his helmet and tossed it over to him while she undid his spare helmet and strapped it on.

“Where are we going?” He asked.

“To the address, Daria and Quinn are there but Jake and Helen won’t be back till tomorrow and Daria said to bring you around.” Jane said and slide onto the passenger seat and patted the rider seat.

He put on his helmet and sat down, starting the bike in one fluid motion.
He started the bike and she directed him which way to go until he was riding down an upscale suburb and she was pointing down a red bricked house. Jane was holding tightly to his back, she seemed to be enjoying herself.

He pulled into the driveway and eased the bike onto the kick stand before removing his helmet and staring toward the door.
Jane climbed off the bike with a groan and smiled rudely at him as she undid her helmet.

“Is this it?” He asked.

“Yep and you owe me another ride sometime.” Jane said before swaying toward the door.
He followed behind her and noted that she didn’t bother to knock before entering.

Once inside he groaned, the place screamed well off. A redhead was standing in the middle of the living room staring at him and was quickly joined by a shorter brunette.

“Ladies, here’s the offer. I’ll trade Trent for this fine specimen.” Jane joked.

“Jane this isn’t the time.” The brunette said with a frown.

“I’ll take that deal.” The redhead said and then blushed as the two clearly older girls turned and stared at her.

“Hey Trent is hot and if you don’t want him, I’ll take him.” She shrugged.

“We’ll talk later.” Jane said with an evil grin.

“Hi.” Samuel said feeling nervous.

“Hello, I’m Daria Morgendorffer and this is my sister Quinn and you met my friend Jane already.” The brunette said flatly.

“Samuel.” He nodded.

“I understand you have some evidence to back up your claim.” Daria pushed.

“Get real, he looks just like dad did in those old pictures, except for the long hair.” The redhead, Quinn said.

Samuel reached into the inside pocket of his jacket and pulled out everything he had managed to gather before leaving his grandmother’s home and held it out, he wasn’t surprised when she took it and quickly started leafing through it.

“Damn, I know you and Helen said it would be just the one night but I didn’t plan on this.” Daria read from one of the letters. “You should learn to forgive what your father did to you, war damages a man and he passed that damage on to you.” Daria sighed loudly.

“There is some medical stuff, just blood type, allergies that kind of thing too.” Samuel said.

“Let’s see, type AB+, same as me and Quinn but that doesn’t mean anything. You’re allergic to nuts, so is Quinn. Ok what we have is a lot of iffy evidence but nothing iron clad.” Daria said.

“I just want to meet my dad.” Samuel said.

“Well, there’s a problem there. Jake and Helen decided to stay an extra week at the resort. But we can clear all this up on Monday with a quick blood test.” Daria nodded.

“OK, any cheap hotels in the area.” Samuel thought wondering how he was planning to afford even a cheap one.

“You’ll stay here, in the guest room.” Quinn said causing Daria to glare at her, but the younger sister one.

“Fine but you have to feed him.” Daria sighed.

“Can I stay too?” Jane said smiling and making eyes at him in jest.

“When do I take delivery of Trent?” Quinn countered.

“I’ll grab my stuff off my bike.” Samuel said and head toward the door.
:I can’t believe it, I found my dad and sisters.: He thought still in shock over what had occurred.
:I have a family.: He continued and felt a shudder run down his spine.
