Tall Like Me

Quinn stepped out of her father’s car and rubbed her legs, fighting the urge to kick the door of the Lexus. She straightened her skirt and started toward the school building and caught sight of the three girls looking her way.
“That’s a great outfit.” One of the girls called over to her smiling.
“Thank you, it’s a pain to find decent clothes in my size.” Quinn said as she crossed the short distance in three long strides.
“You clearly know something about fashion.” Said the other brown haired girl.
Quinn inspected the three girls quickly and smiled. One was Asian and judging by the lack of anything going on in her eyes either heavily medicated or a recent victim of head trauma. The first girl who had greeted her might as well of had “Follower.” Tattooed on her forehead. The final girl was clearly the leader. :Or had been.: Quinn thought.
“I’m Sandi Griffin, this is Stacy and Tiffany.” Sandi said.
“I’m Quinn Morgendorffer, we just moved here.” Quinn said as she stared down at the three girls.
“Who’s … that?” Tiffany said pointing at someone behind her.
“That’s just my sister Daria, don’t point. She has a temper.” Quinn grinned as Daria passed them in one of her typical anti fashion outfits.
“You’re both really tall.” Stacy said cheerfully.
“Maybe everyone in this town is just really short.” Quinn retorted and almost regretted it.
“Nooo, Joey … moved … here … from … Florida … and … he’s … not … tall.” Tiffany said looking thoughtful.
Sandi and Stacy both looked at Tiffany with a mix of amusement and frustration.
“Well, Can you girls give me the quick tour and point out any man size guys that might be around, I hate dating short boys.” Quinn said shaking her head.
“As President of the fashion club, we will be happy to show you around our fair school.” Sandi stated formally.
“How did you find a skirt that looks that good in your size?” Stacy asked.
“Never buy off the rack, Stacy wasn’t it, you don’t want your clothes to look like they were made for someone else do you.” Quinn said pleasantly.
“You’re … really … smart.” Tiffany said with an awe filled look.
“But not to smart, I think we may have found a new member of our club.” Sandi declared as the girls started her tour.
“I think you might have indeed.” Quinn grinned.
“Stacy make up a list of tall boys that would be acceptable for Quinn to date, will you.” Sandi said and Quinn suppressed a laugh as the girl quickly whipped out a pad of paper and started writing on it.

Daria climbed out of the front passenger seat and looked at her sister picking out her newest thralls already.
“I'll try to help her through this difficult period of adjustment. See ya Dad.” Daria said as she stretched her cramping legs.
She started to the school already grumpy from the ride in her father’s matchbox sized car and her sister’s warning to one of the girls pricked her a bit.
:Thanks, Quinn now by the end of the day people will either be trying to set me off or walking on egg shells around me.: Daria growled in her mind.
She almost made it to the office before she was almost knocked off her feet by a clown in a football jersey.
“Watch it.” She said as she straightened her glasses annoyed almost as much at him as herself for not seeing him.
“Wuh you’re tall, hey how’s the weather up there?” The dark hair player said smiling as if he had just come up with the funniest joke in the world.
Daria had to fight the urge to swing at the moron.
“Expect some rain a little later for you short people.” Daria said forcing a smile on her face.
“I’m not short, I’m the QB.” The boy said looking offended.
“Quarter huh, sounds about right, Tiny.” Daria tossed out then bent down slightly and patted the boy on the head gently and a real smile replaced the fake one.
“Don’t worry, you’ll hit a growth spurt any day now and then you won’t have to strain your neck so much to talk to me.” Daria teased.
“Hey, uncool.” The boy said and stomped away flushed in the face.
“I can die happy now.” Said a dark haired girl leaning against a row of lockers.
“Enjoying the show.” Daria asked.
“I would have paid to see it.” The dark hair girl laughed.
“Daria Morgendorffer.” Daria said holding out her hand surprised at finding a half way decent person in this town.
“Jane Lane. Artist and secret master of the universe.” Jane said with a mock bow after a brief handshake.
“A native god, my apologies for the destruction I will intently spread around this town during my battles with Mothra.” Daria returned.
“Green jacket, Godzilla; I get it. Where’s your tail?” Jane asked laughing.
“Under my skirt, what kind of mutant lizard do you think I am?” Daria answered feeling better about the move for the first time.
“This is going to be a great year.” Jane said before she headed to class ahead of a teacher that showed up to round up the new students.
